First Person Shooters seem to have been around for ages. They have appeared on all platforms from consoles to PCs. Recently gaming companies have been trying to incorporate new aspects to the genre like stealth for example, which needs you to rather avoid confrontations with the enemy so you can survive instead of just running and shooting. Alien vs. Predator 2 (AVP2) not only incorporates this but also adds a whole new aspect to the term First Person Shooter.
AVP2 is based around the movies that appear in its name. The aliens and the marines were both modeled around the ones taken from the series of movies, Aliens. The predator stays true to its original appearance in the movie Predator. Sierra has done well to incorporate all aspects from both these movies into this one game, improving over its predecessor in so many ways.
Monolith Productions has really excelled themselves with the making of AVP2. Admittedly how could you go wrong, with a mix of freaky aliens and some kick but marines, then throw in some predators for fun and you have a deadly cocktail that could turn into a very addictive and extremely fun to play first person shooter. I find that this came into the fray at the perfect time before Christmas and with not much in the way of a competitive release, Return to Castle Wolfenstein was still a way off.
AVP2 was a game that had a hard time getting people to believe that it was going to be all that they had hoped for, seeing that its predecessor had some potentially fatal flaws and was not much of a head-turner to say the least. But soon enough the wait is now over and all you fans of the respective movies and game players in general will not be upset because this game is ready to rock your digital world.
