Today we have a review on a new power supply from PC Power & Cooling called the Silencer 750 Crossfire Edition. This is the first product produced by the company since they were acquired by OCZ and its red paint job really makes a statement. The Crossfire bread power supply is designed to take on the power hungry Radeon HD 2900XT graphics cards offering dual 8-pin PCI Express power connectors.
Over the past few years OCZ Technologies has been pushing further and further into the power supply market, targeting gamers with a range of high-end products. It was not until May 2007 that OCZ really secured a position in the power supply market. At this time OCZ acquired a well known and established US based power supply manufacturer called “PC Power & Cooling”. Although PC Power & Cooling are not all that well known in Europe and even Australia for that matter, they are very well known in the US.
While OCZ did acquire the company they are not changing the name or the product range, rather they are using their market presence to make PC Power & Cooling a worldwide recognized brand name. Shortly after joining forces both companies announced the release of a new Crossfire certified power supply. The Silencer 750 Quad Crossfire Edition power supply, which has been released under the PC Power & Cooling product line, is designed to meet the requirements of the latest Radeon HD 2900XT Crossfire configurations.
This makes the new PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Crossfire Edition power supply somewhat unique, as few units already offer complete support for Radeon HD 2900 XT Crossfire technology. The Silencer 750 does this with quad PCI-Express connectors which also support the 8-pin configuration of the Radeon HD 2900XT graphics cards. However this is not the only unique aspect of the Silencer 750 power supply, as PC Power & Cooling claims that this is also the most powerful single rail power supply on the market! Also, as the name suggests, the Silencer 750 is designed to be one of the quietest power supplies available and will remain virtually silent even at peak loads.
Although we have never reviewed a PC Power & Cooling product in the past we do have high expectations for the Silencer 750 power supply. With over 20 years of experience creating power supplies we imagine by now that PC Power & Cooling has mastered the art of creating power supplies and this is what we hope to find today. Already the Silencer 750 Crossfire looks impressive with its fiery red paint job that is sure to turn a few heads!
