Today we are checking out another high-end CPU cooler, this time from a company called Prolimatech. They claim that their new Megahalems heatsink is able to outperform the industry’s best products, such as the Thermalright TRUE Copper, so we decided to find out if it can...
It is not every day that we get an e-mail from some unknown company claiming that they have a product that can lay waste to the industry’s most acclaimed products. Actually, hang on, we get these e-mails all the time, what we don’t see every day is a product that genuinely can! Nevertheless, Prolimatech did provide us with a graph showing us that their new Megahalems heatsink is in fact better than the Thermalright TRUE Copper, so it must be.
The Megahalems is an interesting product, largely because there is nothing special about it, or at least nothing that really sets it apart from the countless other high-end air-coolers. Prolimatech has employed heatpipe technology, just like every other cooling company these days. Actually, what is believed to make this product such a great performer, is in fact that it simply uses so many heatpipes to direct heat into two separate series of fins.
As it stands Prolimatech is currently offering just one cooler, being the mighty Megahalems. The company is certainly in its infancy right now, having only been established in 2008. This generally means that availability is going to be poor, and so far this does appear to be the case with the Megahalems, as we have struggled to find it for sale online.
Price wise the Prolimatech Megahalems is said to cost just $48 US, while the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme is priced at $53 US, and the TRUE Copper Ultra-120 Extreme at $105 US. It should be noted that none of these products features a fan, while all can support either a single or dual 120mm fan(s). So although the Megahalems may be cheaper than the Ultra-120 Extreme, it is far from being an affordable heatsink, and therefore we will be expecting it to perform well.
Update: (March 24th 2009) - It turns out Prolimatech gave us the wrong MSRP, the Megahalems is not retailing for $48 US but rather $60 US. Sorry for any confusion caused.
